Finally, I finshed putting together the Hip Hop Bloggers Group over at Yahoo! This group is not just for writers on this site- it's for anyone who has a "hip-hop blog" or a blog that talks about hip-hop at all.
Why did I create it? Well,
I explain all that on the group, and I don't feel like copying and pasting it here. See the bottom.
To subscribe, just enter your email into this ugly form below:
Or visit the join page.
UPDATE: I changed the name of the group from "hip hop blogs" to "hip hop bloggers" to make it clear that this isn't just a group for our blog writers here. Also, anyone who wants to join can also support this effort by linking to this post on their own blog. Lastly, I encourage all of my dark skin peoples out there to join the Black blogger group list we that George created.
UPDATE 2: There's a webfeed for the group! If you know how to use it subscribe and enjoy.
Why did I create this group? Here we go-
Last year there were only 4 hip-hop blogs on the web. Now there are dozens. Back when our "blogosphere" was smaller I knew each writer's name, where they lived, and spoke to them on aim, email, and in
person often. Now I can't keep up.
Why do I care? Well, because a blog is a conversation. I don't keep a blog to get rich or famous. I do it to share ideas with others. Thanks to the webfeeds of most of the hip-hop blogs I am able to keep up with the ideas. But since I don't speak to the people the ideas thatI read are out of "context" in a way.
I'm hoping that this email list/message board will be a simple way for all of us to keep in contact and trade thoughts. There are a few specific uses for this space that I've thought of:
1. Jeff Chang once group emailed everyone about a writing opportunity he was passing up and passing along. Now he can do that here.
2. Byron Crawford once emailed me about a hack I was using with my blog software. Now we can have that exchange here to everyone's benefit.
3. Eric Nord started a hip-hop directory with the help and input of a lot of us. Now any of us can do something like that here.
4. Oliver Wang once advised me on how much I should charge a website that wanted me to write for them. On the group everyone can benefit from that advice.
So join. Have fun. Let's do this.
