The rumor has been floating for weeks that Jay-Z is in talks to sign with Aftermath. According to tymelyne.com the story has been "confirmed":
"Just now on Power 105.1 in New York, Steph Lova confirmed the story about Jay-Z signin with Aftermath. S. inked a one album deal with Dr.Dre and Jimmy Iovine and apparently sold his share of Roc-A-Fella records to Dame Dash for a reported $150,000,000."
I'll keep ya'll posted if this turns out to be true.
UPDATE: Dame denies there's going to be a breakup but admits he, Biggs, and Jay-Z may sell off their equity in Roc-A-Fella and move on to other things. A quote from the man himself:
"After a decade of success and consistent good music and quality individuals, there comes a time when you can extend your contract or you could sell your company and you can still run things like Russell [Simmons] did with Def Jam and Jimmy Iovine did with Interscope. That's what's happening with us now. The question is, if we do decide to sell the rest of the equity in Roc-A-Fella, how do we move forward?"
UPDATE 2: Further rumors that Jay is coming back as "S. Carter" and starting his own record label. A quote:
When asked about the potential label deal with Warner and the speculation of signing Talib Kweli, Foxy Brown and others, Jay-Z answered, “Well, I like those artists, so I don't know. Maybe next year, maybe three years, but we'll see.”
Now SOHH reports that Foxy Brown claims to be signed to "S. Carter Records":
On DJ Big Mike's latest mix CD, Cruel Summer 2K4, Foxy Brown announces that she's signed to S. Carter Records for $75 million. Over the instrumental to Terror Squad's new single "Lean Back," Foxy flip's the song into "Fall Back" and spits "ni99as is asking Fox about a deal / ni99a S. Carter... 75 mil."
UPDATE 3: SOHH further reports from an unamed source that, "the reason for the new label name, "Shawn Carter," is because Roc-A-Fella legally owns the name "Jay-Z." "
UPDATE 4: The NY Post reports Jay and Dame have sold the Roc to Universal. Since this is the Post we'll need more confirmation
More pieces to the puzzle.
Jay is the brains in Hip-Hop right now. Anybody hatin just doesn't undastand business. And for those that don't know, the game is only business. Money makes things happen that people never thought could. Anybody wit a brain can see that Dre and Jay got money and monopoly on the agenda. Money because what other group in "the game" can top em. Strategy because with a lable with that roster you got longevity. Of course you're not going to drop all ya artists at one time, instead you give people what they want little by little and feed em wit a long spoon. Monopoly because of this: Busta, Eve, Game, Eminem, 50, Banks, Yayo, Buck, D12, Obie, and the list goes on. Plus by signin to Interscope you got rights to all of Pac's samples and recordings so who wouldn't want access to the highest selling artist of all time. Nuff said people do ya homework money plus marketing equals millions Jimmy + Jay + Dre + Eminem + 50 equals Billions and a 2005 takeover... I just hope it's not the downfall of hip-hop. A muthafuckin genius!

I put it like this. Dr. Dre is a fuckin mastermind. He got everybody on his team. Just think about it... Eminem, 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, Tony Yayo, Busta Rhymes, Eve, Rakim, S. Carter, Obie Trice, D-12, Game, and himself. This nigga is unstoppable. Dr. Dre is my idol. I have my own record label and it's called Unmortified Records and we are based out of Eminem's home city DETROIT. I look at what Dr. Dre is doing and I'm trying to do the same things he's doing. I'm looking for hot artists. But not to get off the subject Aftermath is hotter than anybody in the whole rap industry. I don't even think Death Row Records which is Dr. Dre's former label could even fuck with what Aftermath is doing. I remember when Dr. Dre came out with that song "BEEN THERE DONE THAT" they said that Dr. Dre was done, they said it was over for his career. Well they ass lied.
If I could get a chance to sign with Aftermath as a producer that would be lovely. If anybody could help a young 20 year old hott producing black male get closer to Aftermath please email me @derronknight@yahoo.com...
Thank you. That's all I got to say...

I think that is the best idea Jay has ever done. Foxy is the best female rapper. Me being from Brooklyn, any rap dude in the game will tell you that shorty is the best to ever do it. I basically live out on Bed-Stuy, and they will let you know that Kim spits nothing. She gets no respects in the street. I tell you, when the streets say who they want back one name spits out of they mouth, Fox Boogie Brown. OK so what she was off the scene for a good 2 years or however long and she lost her swagger, but the King is back and the streets have officially spoken. So im glad fox is back. YOu can listen to any other female rapper...any pick one. NONE OF THEM CAN RIP IS GANGSTA LIKE FOXY CAN. Quote that. I dont even wanna hear it. Fox is runnin' it, and no other female rapper has came in and done half of the stuff she has done. She spits crazy fo real. Shanna is trying to get up in there...and she's a good rapper. I think Shanna has come a long way. But all this stuff about Remy...man please. Ok so what she did Lean Back...haha She was basically talkin the same stuff that Fox and KIm did back in 95'..i mean be real. But fo real, Foxy Brown is doin it big.

I think that Jay Z was the best rapper alive. And that S.Carter is gone to be better becaues he is much smarter. and the Idea S. signing Foxxy Brown is a good ider because you can never forget where u come from and Foxxy was there from the Aint No days. I belive Shawn Carter has 2 personalties
#1 Shawn Carter the smart guy, money maker, business man
#2 Jay-Z the rapper, entertainer, hustler,
and i think that the swicth will keep the fans that he all ways had by letting his flow grow upwith them being that Shawn Carter is the grown man in Jay-Z to sum it all up Jay-Z, HOVA S. Carter I belive is the best it's get not to many people are gone to be able to do it like he done it
Walt baby love P-H-I-L-L-Y HOME OF STATE PROP CHAIN GANG
