To follow up my earlier thoughts, I was going to write about how the increased battling in hip-hop (between rappers and non-rappers alike) has actually prevented violence, just as Afrika Bambaataa hoped it would decades ago. But that theory doesn't really fly. I would post it anyway just to spark a discussion, but if I started writing about hip-hop trends that don't really exist I'd be the next Shaheem Reid or something.

Wow. I thought I was the only one who noticed Mr. Reid's MO. Is it that obvious these days? Next time we chat remind me to tell you the story about how I had banned MTV from SOHH.com's server via IP.

Being a news nerd I pick up on the habits of the writers I read a lot. For instance Kelefa Sanneh is always calling an artist or song "brilliant."
