Peace. Just came back from Chicago. I have so many comments. But to speak directly to this, I had an interesting conversation with a key male media personality during the break between panels on Saturday. We discussed how enterprising men-on-the-make could probably score some last-night-in-Chi hookup by, as he so aptly described, "putting on a pink shirt" or by proclaiming themselves pro-feminist, pro-womanist, or simply a male feminist.

But the role-playing and gaming aside, the event was a veritable garden of dichotomies and disconnects, disagreements and dualities. Male vs. Female, Black vs. White, Hip Hop vs. The Ivory Tower, Feminist Scholars vs. Young Black Panthers, etc., etc., etc. But if I learned NOTHING ELSE this weekend in Chicago it's that we have to celebrate our differences, then set them aside in order to effect change.

The next couple of weeks will tell the tale. We talked ALOT. There was maaaaaaad discourse. Now it's about praxis, and how all of this theory will be put into action. I'm confident after meeting sisters like Moya from Spelman, Dawn-Elissa from Stanford, and so many others of their ilk that B-Girls and Feminist Academics CAN link toward growth and development which can ultimately benefit both communities of women; as well as men and the Hip Hop community at large.

Much more later on http://pyramids2projects.blogspot.com

And of course, the progress will continue at the B-Girl Be Summit June 2 - 5 in Minneapolis, MN. http://www.intermediaarts.org/bgirlbe.html
