New Blogs- Nelson George and Weed Carriers

The link list of hip-hop flavored blogs on the front page of my site has about a half dozen new additions. Most notable:

Nelson George. He's your favorite rap writer's favorite rap writer. Dude was doing it before anyone knew it was going to blow up. By the way- for all those getting on me for not hating on The Source as hard as everyone else, Nelson George agrees that The Source has a great hard news section. Take that.

A Salute to Weed Carriers. It's a site devoted to the unsung heroes of rap- the entourage. Why the name weed carriers? Well, that's a funny story itself.

By "great hard news section," don't you really just mean better than XXL?

not "better", just not as bad as other people are saying.

No print mag can have a good hard-news section. By the time the pub hits print, shiz is OLD news. All those glossy rags suck (for the most part).

Mags can do long form investigative journalism that the dailies don't inc=vest their time in. That's the difference

I'll give you that. But how much long-form investigative journalism is The Source or XXL really doing? Maybe a significant amount, I don't know.

I'll admit I haven't read either in a very long time, but how many "Who Killed [INSERT DEAD RAPPER]" can one magazine write? I would imagine that it can't be very many. And how many topics can be investigated anyway? Another rap label funded by drug money? Snooze. We've heard that one before.

Also, the way all mags across all genres are slashing staffing budgets, I'd be surprised if they (meaning XXL or The Source) could support anything that was either a) very long-term or b) thoroughly and accurately reported. That kind of work takes a lot of time and money. That's why dailies (or local television news) don't do investigative journalism very often. It's less about time and more about MONEY.

The Soucre has probably permenantly destroyed their crediblity with all the Benzino/Made Men fcckery, but I agree with Hashim. The magazine has actually gotten better over the past year or so and gets an ill-deserved slating from its critics, esp. the Eminem groupies. That being said, XXL is still a better magazine overall.

Didn't Nelson George formerly edit the New York Post?
