Since the Hurricane Katrina Crisis began many hip-hop bloggers have been all over it, helping to highlight issues and concerns you may not find in the mainstream media. Using TagSoup, I looked through some of the phrases that have been commonly used on these blogs in the last week. Some of these phrases include "Hurricane Katrina", "New Orleans", "Black people", and "natural disaster" (click through each of those links to find a list of posts from strictly hip-hop bloggers who have used those words).
Like Jimi, I'm hoping that our rap flavored mags can give us interesting and significant coverage on this man made disaster, which may become the watershed event of the new hip-hop generation. If you're a writer who has to cover Katrina for the hip-hop audience, you may want to keep checking back at those links to see what issues your potential readers are concerned about, or what points we're completely missing out on. The links update with new posts every two days or so.
You can aslo see a complete list of 250 common phrases hip-hop bloggers have been using recently. Long term readers of this site remember I put together this tool months ago with the slim hope it might be useful one day.
In related news, I started a Hurricane Katrina blog at SOHH to track these things manually.
If you've been talking about Katrina on your music blog, yet you don't see your posts listed in those links, let me know and I'll add your feed for the next sweep.
I'm feeling this site, let's exchange links. My site is www.thabocks.com

It's interesting this "disaster" has brought the black blog experience to light. I've got some heartfelt information on whats happening on the ground from a perspective I can relate to.
We'll see how our rap flavored mags deal with this whole affair. with hope the spotlight will for once focus on real (read poverty and awareness) issues from a hiphop perspective.

Yep, people are all over this topic. Over 80% of Google searches leading to my site contain the word "Katrina." Most are looking for the lyrics to Mos Def's Katrina Klap. People are hungry for info on Katrina and hungry to hear what the hip-hop community has to say about it as well.
