"Beef ain't what they play on Hot 97. Beef don't come with a radio edit" -Mos Def
Mos Def got beef with George Bush and celebrities who he feels aren't doing enough for the hurricane victims, like Bono. Not that fake stuff. Real beef.
Listen to his political battle song, Katrina Clap.
It would have been more powerful if Mos straight rapped over it, than the singing thing he did, but I'm not complaining.
It had me bouncing to if for sure. I prefer to have heard him rapping instead too.

whats dope about this is that it doesn't seem as if he's doing this as a publicity stunt weeks or days before his album drops.
the song itself is mediocre, but very appreciated. this administration has gotten away with far too much.what will it take for conservatives to finally realize the mistakes in the ideology, and execution of these beliefs?

As sad as the devestation in New Orleans is, the blatant racism and mismanagement might finally give conscious hip-hop a voice.
Check out KO's "George Bush Doesn’t Care About Black People” too.

THE BUSH RESPONSE TEAM
10,000 bodies floating in the muck.
Bush tells New Orleans: "Well, tough luck!"
Condoleezza Rice buys $3000 shoes
while New Orleans is singing the blues.
Rice goes to Broadway play---misses Cabinet meeting
while New Orleans lies dead and bleeding.
10,000 bodies floating in the muck...
Cheney tells Halliburton "Get the fuck
down to the bayou, we've struck it rich
from Hurricane Katrina---she's one sweet bitch...
Now Halliburton gets a fix-it contract
just like we did in old Iraq."
10,000 bodies sinking hard
but we can't send in the National Guard
'cause Bush sent half of them to Iraq
to stab the world in the back,
to steal their oil and suck them dry
while we spread the "freedom/democracy" lie.
10,000 bodies---most of them black.---
are sinking while FEMA takes a nap.
Its head, Michael Brown, breeds Arabian ponies.
He's one of Bush's favorite phonies.
10,000 bodies float out to sea.
Bush tells Cheney: "I gotta go pee."

so the FEMA director got sent home today. that's an admission of failure if i ever heard one.
ups to the mightly Mos for representing on the track. who said political hiphop was dead? it took something as devistating as Katrina to pull heads out of the woodwork.
this is an extremely fragile time in american history. tension is building up and there's potential for some 60s and 70s strife.
when shit goes down, i know what side i'll be on and what i'd fall on my sword for.
one.

hip hop sucks. so does moss deaf

This is a perfect Hip-Hop song in terms of social relevance. You got the "issue of the day" (Katrina), you got an East Coast rapper, you got a South Coast beat (from New Orleans, good pick), and to top it off you got the social conflict.
Mediocre yes, right on time double yes...
("Moss Deaf" is a funny jone, though. I had to stifle a chuckle.)

Hey, the track was aight, but he could've done better. But if this disaster doesn't get us working together (at least better than we are NOW) I don't know what we are gonna do (AS A PEOPLE). Also, do you guys (or girls) this that positive vibe hip hop could take the driver's seat for a while? 'Cause I'm tired of "going to the club", sexin' all these video chicks, and shootin' everything in sight.
Holla Back!

this is not a racial issue. it's not that bush doesn't like black people. it's facts. it's the fact that in new orleans, the majority of the poorer population are african american. BUT they're not the only ones. that's all we see in the news. but what about the poor caucasians, the poor asians, the poor hispanics? they're suffering too. and i see a common factor - they're poor.
to immediately say that bush doesn't care about black people is wrong. if that's the case then why was our secretary of defense the well respected colin powell. and what about rice? are ya'll going to hate on them too?
at least they're getting involved in politics - and trying to be a part of a solution.
it's not an issue of race - it's an issue on class - and why a plan was thoroughly planned out for people that couldn't afford to drive and evacuate - or couldn't afford a bus fee.
there's the problem.
just like what mos def said at the end of his katrina clap - don't talk about it, be a part of it.
the only way we're going to break down racial barriers is if we stop blaming them for the reasons why we don't get jobs we want, why we don't get that we need, or why we aren't exploding in the music industry.
it's not a racial issue. and it only is because people are so quick to look at it that way.
STOP IT.
we're all the same - we just needa use our brains - make wise decisions - and educate ourselves.
find a solution and take action.
mos def is my favorite hip hop artist.
i'm not happy with some of the content of this song.
but i do appreciate the action he's trying to take in what he believes in.

This song is great. And you should check out the video presstheissue.org made to accompany it. It's got shots of Mos live in the studio when he recorded the song - in one take!

I'm cool with the song for the most part and I typically love all things mos def, but with all due respect...why's he picking a bone with bono? First off, Bono's not American, and second, Bono's cause is to end global poverty. If global poverty isn't 'ghetto' i don't know what is. Mos, get your facts straight...you're slippin'

Actually, First of all..
FUCK dj mirateck. Now with that shit out of th e way
I feel the joint, and he basically voicing the hypocrisies which are & have always been perpetuated by any presidential administration, so-called philanthropist & everyone else who benefited directly or indirectly on the Katrina or any disasters that have been occurred.
There's always a bigger picture to this.
And Kanye, was right.
