MC Breed (and The DFC)?
He put the mid-west on the map WAY before Nelly, Eminem, Common and Kanye... (Anybody remember the early Dayton Family material?)
I remember listening to "Ain’t No Future In Yo’ Frontin"...digging the beat, digging the rhyme. The Flint, Michigan native was far from being the most complex lyricist, but he could hold his own. (Trivia: I didn't know that Frontin' was sampled by Ice Cube on "Wicked". I guess I can't really remember that track.)
I remember the year I graduated: 1993. Everybody's favorite song was the one he did with 2pac, “Gotta Get Mine.” From that came that classic line: "I got my mind on my money/ money on my mind. Hand on the trigger/ finger on my mind."
Of that time together, MC Breed commented, “Me and Tupac had a real good relationship. After we recorded ‘Gotta Get Mine’, we knew right away that we could make major moves together. His spirit is always going to live on through me.” Breed currently has unreleased tracks featuring Tupac awaiting a release.
Here's in an old interview. It's kind of like he fell off. I read that he moved to Atlanta and hooked up with Too $hort. He put out an album over a year ago, The New Prescription (Summer 2004), that I need caught wind of.
Anybody out there feeling me out there? Holla back!
Question: What does DFC mean?
This is a good idea for a regular feature.
I saw, one time, that Kwame' had responded to XXL mag's "milk carton" thing.
Sorry I can't give you any info on Breed, though.

Breed was hot for a second, don't really know what happened to him.
On another note, I really do want to get down with Hip Hop Blogs. My site is www.thabocks.com

I have so many of these "Whatever happened to..." subjects in my head. I'm having a hard time not hitting y'all with a bunch of them. But I figure I'll spread them out.
I still have found out what DFC means, I remember reading an article or watching an interview on TV when Breed said the answer. I just can't remember what he said DFC was an acronym for.

Yo! I had no idea that 2Pac's name was Leshane Parish Crooks. Nor did I know his mother name was Alice Faye Williams.
Just checked out thabocks.com.
Very interesting...

Breed was in ATL as of 1999.. likely still here.
Inside info claimed he had a lightweight drug problem (read: yayo).
I used to see him in the Gentelemans Club in ATL (RIP).
DFC the crew had an album, caps get peeled, or something.. Ill MC Eiht track on there.
DFC = Da Flint Crew?
Just a guess.

Yeah...ATL, strippers and yayo is not a good mix for anyone with an inkling of money, let alone a wad of cash from touring and/or royalty checks.
MC EIHT would be another "What happened to...", but I know for a fact he's still grinding. He's like Young Bleed to me: an original rapper that's riding that fine line of obscurity and notoriety.
Upon doing a little deepr research, I found that Dame's guess was right. DFC did stand for Da Flint Crew, but also Da Funk Crew and orginally Dope Flint Connection. The last one has old-school hiphop written all over it.

"Ain’t No Future In Yo’ Frontin" is one of the greatest hip hop singles of all time - no joking. Breed was also on the last Slum Villgae album and sounded pretty fccking good. Dude still got it.

Brittany, the word eminem draws my attention also. So does "Mama'nem".
Ian, I had no idea Slum Village and Breed could cross paths. Interesting...plus it's good? Double interesting.
