With the recent news of Beanie Sigel's Stepfather being brutally murdered in Philadelphia, the question is, when will the violence in Hip Hop calm down, if not cease. Now although this is not a direct blow to the Hip Hop community, but rather an indirect blow that could be directly related to some vendetta that an individual or group of individuals had against B. Sigel.
Not to speculate, we'll let the police figure this tragedy out, however this senseless act of violence occured less than one month after Sigel's acquittal of attempted murder. If not Beans, then who close to him could they make an example out of. Apparently, his Stepfather was shot several times and then set on fire. If that is not malicious and demeaning to the Grant and Derry families, then I don't know what is. With all the recent beefs, fights, shootings, etc., we as a people should have more discussions as to how we want to be portrayed, and how we should portray ourselves in order to bring order to these senseless acts of violence.
Add to the bad news Cam'ron getting shot in DC... Over his car. Ugh.

"we as a people should have more discussions as to how we want to be portrayed, and how we should portray ourselves in order to bring order to these senseless acts of violence."
To me, this approach has had limited success. It's like trying to get McDonalds to stop serving unhealthy food. It isn't the New York Times that puts Beanie Sigel's stepdad on the front page. It's the gossip rags. Also, it's the demand for the gossip, and how the gossip is turned into stereotypes that is the core issue. That is NOT something you can control with a few rallies.
Over the years, about the only major change I've seen in regard to how race is portrayed in the media, is the transition from calling black people negros, to colored, to African-American.
I see no evidence that petitioning the media will work. For me, the main problem with petitioning the media is that other productive community-oriented activities get overlooked. The time you spend protesting People magazine or Fox news could be spent tutoring a child in math. Or it could be time spent starting a business, or reading about things that actually make a difference.

Well, I think we shouldn't speculate the reasons behind the murder until we know for sure. Attributing this crime to B. Siegel this early may be a little pre-mature. Given the guys past, this may have nothing to do with B. Siegel at all. Let's not jump to conclusions on this one.
