Who Will Be the Next Dead Rapper?
We're not even a week deep into 2006 and already a rapper managed to get himself shot. Whether it's by driving their fancy cars through the hood, or airing out enemies on the radio, it seems hip-hop's soldiers love to live reckless lives.
So, before I do my annual hip-hop predictions (three years running...where does the time go?) let's do hip-hop a favor and send a PSA to our favorite emcees that they need to go easy by voting for who will be the next rapper dead.
Currently 50 Cent and DMX have the most votes from fans who believe their dangerous lives will be cut short. And according to many, Big Boi and Nelly are living the safe life, and should enjoy many more years.
Go and vote now. And if anyone is missing from the list, upload their photo and I'll approve it.
(I built this stupid time wasting game using Ning.)
Death and hip-hop music...?
Sounds like a new version of the Blues...?

Um, am I the only one that thinks this is incredibly distasteful? No offense to whoever did the site, I suppose being removed from the circle by a certain number of degrees makes it more acceptable, but when you've met people who have been hurt or come close to being hurt, this doesn't come off as very funny or entertaining.

g, some of these these rappers make songs about being shot, which is ridic, just like this game
Posted by: Hashim | 2006.01.04 at 12:00 AM
Damn it. Kinda just turned into "Who would Tego rather kill" after a few. Murphy Lee or Bow Wow? You're hurting me man!
Posted by: Tego | 2006.01.04 at 10:18 AM
agreed. This is really distasteful.
And so what if these guys rap about getting shot? Its rapping, no need to perpetuate the negative qualities that these guys may be spitting. It puts you below their levl
Posted by: agreed | 2006.01.04 at 05:06 PM
Distasteful or not some of these guys do need a wake up call. DMX, drives like a maniac. He lives not to far from where I do, and he has been pulled over numerous times for driving offenses (it's in the paper all the time), and he thinks its some sort of joke. If he dies, it will be in an auto accident. I also hope that he gets some help with his mental health--I'm worried about him.
50 Cent too--Anybody who runs around bragging about getting shot nine times (and uses that as his claim to fame), wears a bullet proof vest, and tries to start beef (fake and not so fake) with everybody is in trouble. He needs a reality check.
In a very slight defense of Obie Trice, he was driving on a freeway when he was shot (I used to live very close and drove on that freeway often.), and the details make me think this could be random. That said, we don't know yet.
And how could we forget Camron? He gets shot in DC right before releasing major project, and refuses to cooperate with the investigation. I smell a rat...very shady indeed.
Anyways, right on Hashim. I suppose it is not in the best taste, but it takes a loving person to step up and point out that these dudes need to check themselves before they wreck themselves (or somebody else does it). Doing this in the form of a game, is a little cheesy, but I bet this will get somebody's attention. Some of these folks don't value their lives.....but they don't realize it.
PS- Don't think I forget about Eminem. Didn't he just get back with Kim; that seems to bring out his psycho side. He could be in trouble too.

Damn man. If you don't laugh you cry. We supposed to ignore the fact that hip-hop has such a high mortality rate? Or are we supposed to cry ourselves to sleep about it?
Posted by: Tego | 2006.01.05 at 06:50 AM
and while we're at it, let's worry about underweight celebrities like Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan.
Posted by: i'm the skwidawd | 2006.01.05 at 12:35 PM
LOL!! Yeah i'm the skwidawd those anorexic chicks need our help too. I guess we'll have to create a starving White chick battle blog. Who will starve first-- Paris Hilton vs. Lara Flynn Boyle; Jennifer Aniston vs. Lyndsey Lohan; Mary Kate Olson vs. Nicole Richie (I know she does claim to be a White chick, but let's give her honorary White chick status). And if we want to get some women of color in this showdown--that new 106 and Park girl is a must have. Hashim are you on the case?

I'm in agreement with most of the comments here. I find it a distastful subject, but truth of the matter is you shouldn't be afraid of death, but at the same time actively seeking it all the time is not the brightest idea under the sun. The Hip Hop world has already been rocked with plenty of young deaths, and close calls. 50 Cent is basicaly following a similar path as Tupac Shakur and we all know where that ended. It's sad but true, I would not go around advertising myself as Bullet Proof and even have a game named after that. Especially while simultaneously making almost every rapper in the industry your enemy and creating envy amongst peers. It's a dangerous line to cross just to get more publicity and sell more records clothing etc... I personnaly feel 50 Cent has done alot to elevate the game and increase Hip Hop's strength but at the same time I fear for the man, It's a tough road he has laid for himself.

It has to be 50. He wants to be considered in the same company as Pac and Big, so that's his next step i think. Sad...

Have you run out of topics to write about.
Posted by: thatchic | 2006.01.16 at 10:59 PM
Damn Hashim... how can you get righteous about Hot 97's antics and then turn around and laugh at this bullshit? If this was linked for something like the Billboard site for example, there'd be uproar about record labels playing to rap stereotypes etc etc... but because its linked from a Hiphop blog its meant to get a pass?

I have followed hiphop from early days to present times and think that the transition between super rappin and gangsta rap was a self destructive move although the mentality existed way b4 music crossover. I dont think eminem will go cus he has publicly quashed (toy soldiers) any beef that was existing with Ja, and the world knows he has decided to take a back seat. 50 has made his money and I think he will exit b4 it gets to his demise (shooting) there is no point for 50 to carry on anymore he has done it all!! There are many other artists that are emulating the top sellers and i personally think it will be one of these guys to go cus between em they are all fighting for the same spot and that is where it will get grimey/gutter. 50 has basically set the standards for others to follow.

i would like to post my comment on lots of things. we as black folks need to go on our computer and type in the name "willie lynch" a speech by this man, a slave owner will show up. do me a favor and read it. this will shed light on the destruction of the black community. and the black family. also our music as well. it will even explain why bill cosby keeps putting down his own people. it will explain why blacks in general put down other blacks.you will see why there is so much violence among blacks. why we black woman are strong. please read this speech or letter and share it with your friends and family. pass this speech down from generation to generation.

Distasteful my azz!! This reality! Yall better wake up and smell the gunpowder. Just because yall don't wanna talk about the bullshit that goes on in rap don't mean it's not there. Personally, I don't know whose next, but if I had to vote? It would probably be 50 Cent's bitch azz or one of the members of 3-6 Mafia! 3-6 has screwed EVERYBODY out of their money...family, friends, associates, etc. etc. How can you have soo many top artists on your label and in your group and fuck them out of their cash?!?!? They were the reason that they became mult-millionaires!! I LOVE 3-6, but screwing people out of their cash can ONLY be a one-way ticket to the morgue.

Next dead rapper will be Snoop Dogg, he has straight up turned into a bitch. I agree that DJ Paul or Juice Mayn may also get popped coz they have fucked over everybody dating back to the mid 90s. Their music has gone fucking weak aswell. Collaborating with Justin Timberlake is a sure way to put a target on your head!

i hope it's 50 cent... he's a fucking waster and hopefully he'll die, he deserves it for starting beefs wit the best
Posted by: Frank | 2007.08.27 at 02:38 PM
Fuck that, Just because 50 cent starts beef with people doesn't mean he's going to get killed, most rappers do start beef with other rappers, its life, like 50 cent and kanye west he'll slate him because he knows he's a threat to him.
Kanye west is about the only person that is up to 50 cent's rapping standards.
Anyway i think the next "Dead Rapper" Will probably be....Snoop "Doggy" Dogg or Evan Eminem....Evan tho i like a few of eminems songs, I still think he's an over rated rapper.
