I'm in love with an Apple billboard girl
There are a few things that I've really been nostalgic for since moving from San Francisco to Manhattan.
There are the obvious things- family & friends, hyphy music on the radio, the weather. The practical things- having a car, affordable rent, big chain grocery stores. And the personal things- my favorite food joints, my modest record collection, and the girl on the Apple billboard.
I used to see her on the way to work every morning on the corner of 2nd and Howard. She was about 2 stories high, maybe 80 feet wide, rocking the iPod nano. Yeah, I ain't afraid to say it: I was in love with the chick on a giant Apple billboard.
Just look at her. She's fly as hell. Long hair, those dangling earrings, matching necklace, and some cuff bracelets on each arm... damn. The kind of chick that she doesn't have to get half naked to give off that sex appeal, feel me? All she has to rock are a tshirt and jeans to make every guy on the block holler. And she can probably hold down a conversation too. All sophisticated and shit, like you knew her name belonged in a book. But she would still watch football with you. And cook, too. So well rounded you can take her home to mom on the first date and she'd get along with your older sister and play Halo with you and your little brother. She likes that 90s hip hop, but can dance to anything on the radio without being pretentious or ironic about it.
I'm trying to find her here in New York, but I haven't seen her yet. She's not blonde so they won't put her up in Times Square, she's too liberal to put up in the Financial District. They won't put her up in Harlem cause there's not enough cab traffic. The one on the Lower East Side got covered in some hipster art-propaganda. I heard she's on a wall somewhere in Brooklyn, which is fitting. Girls like that are classy enough for Manhattan, but can't bear to live in a place that's lacking so much soul.
I feel where you comin from! We had a SonyEriccson board over here some years back (don't know if it was international or not so you might / might not have seen it) with just a woman's face on it and the caption was something to the effect of "be free/Express yourself/ or something simple like that". It was a pretty huge and stood inside the train station and me and "her" would connect everyafternoon as I headed home from my classes. The Black August tour graced us down here at the very same train station and BlackThought freestyled about her for a while and that's when i knew that i was clearly not the only person in "love" with that billboard!
