Yes, T.I. is having The Best Week Ever, with his album and movie dropping so close to each other. Now, the buzz is all about ATL, but maybe the focus should be on King. I've been bumping it since I got a copy on Friday, and I think ya boy may have quietly dropped a classic album on the world.
Classic to me doesn't mean a perfect album. Perfect albums are boring, and King. isn't either. Classic is more about being able to pick up a disc a decade from now and still enjoying it.
SOuthern haters sit down. I have a feeling we'll be listening to, and talking about King. for a very long time. You heard it here first.
I've been bumping mine all weekend too... Never expected T.I. to drop a classic on us...

King is hardly a classic.
Two points I made (or attempted to) in my review:
A) The last six tracks are all shit.
B) Despite how much they spent on this, nothing on here rises to the level of Rubber Band Man.
The Carter II is wholly superior.
Posted by: Bol | 2006.03.28 at 02:57 PM
That must mean that King is garbage for the most part. The Carter II had me laughing my a** off. Jigga flow w/corny and mediocre rhymes.

Lil Gayne can't even touch T.I. lyrically so I'm definitely gonna be checking for KANG.

Expecting southern rap lyrics to make sense is culturally chauvinistic.

The question is not really about which one of those albums is better (of course none of them is a classic), but why Z-Ro's album never is brought up when "newly released" & "good" "southern" rap albums are being "discussed".

I think its great, but not classic. The second half drops off in quality. He still isn't good lyrically, he just has some fantastic beats behind him and he is a good MC. Fishscale is miles better.

Fishscale Just Dropped and That's a classic!
As far as new releases Ghost has it.
T.I. has a lot more to prove if he wants to be considered one of the best.
And the whole album sounds the same.
Be on the lookout for that new
"Dorchester Univercity"
album from I.W.
The best rap group in the bean hands down.

"Perfect albums are boring."
That statement is retarded.

It's a good album, but it's not better than Trap Muzik.

Ha, seriously. A classic album isn't just one you can pick up a decade later and still find it relevant or enjoyable. A classic album is that plus crazy lyrics. Lyrics that actually talk about something. That's why there are so few real classics.
Nas, Jigga, Biggie, they dropped classic albums. Look at Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt, and Ready to Die, and tell me the difference between those and King. Huge difference. Even in southern rap, King is not a classic. There have been many done better than T.I.'s King.
Posted by: distinkt | 2006.03.29 at 02:48 PM
its good but not enough to be a classic. He still has the same hate on lil flip attitude and I have heard enough of that BS.
Posted by: jay | 2006.03.29 at 02:56 PM
I don't think it's classic anymore.
Posted by: Hashim | 2006.03.29 at 05:58 PM
Ill Will.. Exactly, when someone refers to Z-Ro as "some dude named Z-Ro" like in the article you linked, it's clear that he's overlooked. I like T.I.s new album but if you compare it to Let the truth be told it's obvious that King isn't the classic one
Posted by: Kayle | 2006.03.29 at 07:21 PM
It's definitely not a classic. The lyrics are just wack on it. He really has to step up on that, and tell some stories, instead of just boasting his ass off. Fishscale on the other hand...

Cats thinking Ghost joint is better than TI joint is smoking what Whitney is smoking. I copped both on Tuesday. But TIs is head and shoulders better lyrically and musically. I like Ghost, but the old song style is getting old. Ghost got a nice CD as well, well TI is killing it right now. Give the man his due.

T.I.'s CD is really good. I see that rappers are getting smarter with their strategic track layouts. By starting with King Back as the first track was genius. IF anyone can't notice the glaring similarities to Jay's BLACK album then they have no right on this website. An all black cover that is just begging to become a poster, all black, the sample that proclaims T.I.'s royalty is similar to the random samples that Jay-Z has. Now, I'm not knocking him or his team, I'm actually admiring how clever those cats are. It gives the mystique of the BLACK album which is also considered a classic on the surface even though when you break it down it may not totally pan out that way.
I think that T.I. has solidified his spot at the top in the south since Scarface doesn't seem too concerned at all with the title and personally gave TIP his blessing.
Stand outs for me:
King Back
Get It
I'm Straight even though TIP and BG expose Jeezy lyrically (8balls all day...8balls all day- come on Jeezy, I know you can do better)
Undertaker
Goodlife
It was a solid album...Classic...hmm time will tell.

Fishscale is overrated garbage.
King is a classic, but not on the level of Trap Muzik.
Posted by: David | 2006.04.12 at 12:48 AM
that album is ok but no classic by far here's @ link to check it out http://feltbeats.com/forum/index.php

Yeah dis ya boy yung folk. KING is a classic, homeboy. "What you Know" is a banger of course, but TIP really show he multifaceted on this joint, ya dig. It's the best of 2006 six so far. "Undertaker", "Im Straight", "I'm talking to you", "Live in the sky", you can't deny those tracks are irresitble to the ear, homeboy. It's some mediocre cuts on there too, I wasnt really feeling "stand up guy" or "why u wanna" But T.I. scores on this LP overall, and he ended the thang perfectly wit "Bankhead", fa sho. Keep it pimpin homeboy, oh and I cant wait for Young Dro solo album, he killed it wit his features on KING. Stay up.
