After reading the news on several blogs of Professor X's passing, I listened to this excellent tribute mix and suddenly realized what we just lost. Dag.

By the way...vainglorius! Hip Hop Blogs is protected by the red, the black, the green. With a key. Sisseeeeees!
Yo, that's really sad. Back in 1991-1992 X-Clan was one of the first rap groups I ever listened to. Yo this was back when George Bush The First was in the White House, the four white cops who beat Rodney King on videotape were released, the LA riots broke out in Compton and South Central, and the police in NYC were some of the biggest drug dealing gangstas on the streets (but were sending mostly blacks and Hispanics to jail).
Yo, X-Clan was one of the first rap gropus to show my hood in a hip-hop video... after riots in Washington Heights broke out when witnesses claimed the cops had beaten a Dominican cat to death. I respected X-Clan for showing us love when it felt there was war going on in the streets.
Too bad, the mix on the link you posted doesn't do justice. Though one of the hottest tracks starts, "Xodus," starts at 18:12.

It's good to see you take a minute to acknowledge an artist from the past without your tribute devolving into some senseless excoriation of imaginary straw-men "afrocentric backpackers" and/or a poorly written, misinformed rant about how hurt you feel that some 28 yr. old hip-hop fans don't like whatever snap-trap-hyphy-crunka-house-techno-aqua boogie sub-genre has you geeked this week.
