i love dave, but he is in the wrong for breaching a contract. the dame referenceis low; funny. but low.

Phil

Uh, Hashim...

Am I the only one in the world who believes Dave should piss on all of them (pun intended; "You'll never feel quite the same, once you get a whiff of my Hershey stains...")

After that, just take the show to HBO! For legal purposes, rename it the "Dave Show", "D. Chappelle Show", or the "DC" show. I can see it now coming on after "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

Plus, with all this freedom Dave wants, where else can you get it other than at HBO. Hell, they'll let you do about anything other than ejaculate in the camera...

Anyway, good luck Dave and all of us Chappelle fans (Colin Po-well, Condilangus Rice...)

KEY TERM: Contractual Agreement
an artists vision, ie, sole developer/producer's intergrety and direction, is certainly compromised due to show CCs control breech, hence the lack of cooperation on DC's part. I think anyone in Dave's position clearly understands the repercussions of such bold actions. who in thier right mind would behave so defiantly without having any legal grounds. The most minute breech of contract of any kind can land you in a suit worth 50mil. (sidebar: the dvd sales alone of the first 2 seasons did well over 60 million)
The Gen Pub does not have a clear picture of all stated in the articles of their agreement so there is much room for negative criticism targeted at DC. All in all, I'd do the same and hold out for more that 50MM and control.

As for DC's lackies, thats just some backhanded shit.

Chappelle show w/o Dave, definitely not the same. I was invited to taping last week, and I miss Dave. But glad I got Dave on DVD

Big Ed

You know, I'm as big a Dave Chapelle fan as the next nigga, but I'm really not understanding your point here. When did the world all of a sudden start to revolve around Dave Chapelle? You're telling me that these cats, all of whom have been grinding for decades, are supposed to walk away from opportunities to further their own careers just to show loyalty to a dude who showed them no loyalty whatsoever. That's bullshit. Yeah, I know that DC's name was on the marquee and he was the main attraction, star and driving force behind the show's success, but do you really think he did it all on his own? Do you think he came up with every sketch idea and wrote every script? Hell no. It was a team effort. These dudes contributed to the success that allowed Chapelle to sign that $50 million deal. And when he put his name on that contract he wasn't just making a committment to Comedy Central. He was also making a committment to his "boys", his fellow comedians who had been grinding with him even when nobody was paying attention to his skinny ass or his little show. No one put a gun to his head and made him sign. He knew what the atmosphere at Comedy Central was like from jump. Why did it all of a sudden become a problem? Imagine being Charlie Murphy. You're 40 plus and you've been struggling in your brother's shadow for decades but now you can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. You helped build something from the ground up and now your "friend" just signed the deal that will raise you all to that next level. And then just like that your "friend" says "I don't wanna play no more". In fact, he doesn't say shit. He doesn't even give you the simple courtesy of picking up the phone and saying "Sorry, man, but I can't do this shit." Instead, he just wigs the fuck out and hops a plane to Africa. Right in the middle of taping. Leaves all his "friends" high and dry. Where is the loyalty in that? The worst part is that Chapelle has yet to offer a clear and logical reason for fleeing the scene. I watched the whole Oprah show and I still don't know what the fuck that nigga was talking about. I read the Time interview and that was even more confusing. All this vague, obtuse talk about creative control and white people running shit. Nigga, what the fuck? He didn't know that white people ran Comedy Central when he first came to them. Nigga, white people run BET! And as far as creative control, man come on. This nigga had sock puppets running around dripping gonorrhea. He had Klansmens with their heads exploding. This dude had more creative control than any black man in television history. If Comedy Central is going to give Murphy, Rawlings and Brennan a chance to continue something that they helped to start, I have no problem with them taking advantage of the situation. One man should not have the power to fuck shit up for everybody. What Dave Chapelle did was selfish and cowardly and it snatched opportunity from the hands of people who were supposed to be his friends. Yet you seem to feel that these guys still owe him something. I agree with you. They do owe him something: a good ass kicking.

Worldwide Underground

The only reason Dave was so raw when he first came out was because he performed as if no one was watching..now that everyone is watching the feeling is gone..he's just doing it to make money instead of just doing it to do it...plus chappelle was quoted saying white people were laughing a lil too hard at his jokes if you get the picture....

queen esther

big ed -- i don't know who you are, but that was a brilliant rant.

 Essex

Charlie Murphy and Ashy Larry can't turn that down. And I know Dave would understand.
As a black comedian I can say that you have to take everything that's available to you until you reach that Dave Chappelle status.

Dave is rich and famous and can make movies DVD's concerts etc. these niggaz have yet to get america's attention so they have to do it.

Dave ain't mad at these niggaz,
You think they don't burn it down still anymore???
C'mon...

 Essex

And oh yeah.
Charlie Murphy's show will not bomb..
It will blow...

Kev'ron

Big ed said it all....

but anyway why do you think the Charlie Murphy show will bomb?

Charlie murphy and his brother are shooting a movie that Charlie wrote and it has hit written all over it
