Back in the Fall of 2005 Black entertainment superman Reginald Hudlin hired the super friends - Toure, Nelson George, and Selwyn Hinds to turn around BET. Between the four of them, there has been success in many forms of media, including television, film, magazines, and even comic books.
Now a year later, what improvement have they made to BET? They took away Uncut, broke BET News into hourly updates, and gave us some reality shows and another hip hop awards program. But are they making more or less money? Is viewership up or down? Are the kids excited and the old folks satisfied? Who knows?
Personally, as a former BET viewer, I don't feel any connection with the channel anymore. It's not very relevent to me, even though I love music videos, comedy, and church more than the average man. The website is even smaller on my need-to-be-aware radar.
However, I am a fan of most of the dudes listed above, and I'm still
waiting on them to pull off some magic trick that will make BET
pleasing to all audiences. I'll give them another year and see what happens.
Well, they do got The Wire coming in January which is pretty huge...
I'm looking forward to how they edit the whole thing

Here's what BET needs to do if they wanna become a juggernaut again:
1. Don't become MTV. MTV has a lock on the suburban kids, the reality shows, and every other stupid ass thing they produce.
2. Put in some backpack/concious hip-hop in the playist. Common, Taleb, Hi-Tek, Blackalicious, etc. The people who hate BET for it's ignorance toward that music, might tune in again.
3. Show more live performances. People love watching what a rapper can do live.
4. Get those retarded-annoying VJ's off the air, and bring in actual rappers or DJ's to host those shows.
5. Have a show on the classics. Show some Motown, Jazz, Funk, etc. music videos.
6. A reality freestyle show contest. Followin the life and style of the rappers.
7. Get a comedy show. MTV has Yo Mamma and Wildin Out, which are terrrrrrible. Get something thats raw and funny. Get a Dave Chappelle/Steve Harvey type; someone who is both smart and a comic genius.
8. Have more in-depth news stories and coverage.
You know when BET is not getting things right, when Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, and even MTV is producing much better black show. When Sway is easier to relate to than Big Tigger. BET needs to get it right quick, and playing shitty music won't get it done.
