Last night during the finals game I saw a glimpse of an HP commercial featuring Jay-Z.

Smooth the Hustler - "Broken Language" Video

Smooth the Hustler's "Once Upon A Time In America" is one of my favorite albums from the 90's hip-hop era. I remember hearing "Broken Language", his second single featuring his brother Trigga being played on Hot 97, and how I would get hype and rap along, waving my hands in front of me like the emcees I admired.

Smooth was special because behind his typical NY drug and gun talk, his metaphors, concepts, pop references revealed a really bright dude. I think Grafh and Stat Quo also rep that same intelli-thug ethic. Hopefully their style will be the only thing like Smooth, and not their careers.

"Chappelle's Show" Continues Shooting Without Dave

Dave Chappelle has clearly stated that he doesn't want the third season of his show to air until he's worked out his problems with Comedy Central. So why are his "friends" Neal Brennan, Charlie Murphy, and Donnell Rawlings shooting episodes without him?

My people, please tell me - is this grimy or not? These Kanye nigs are trying to "Dame Dash" Dave!

I know they each have talent on thier own, but without Chapelle these dudes would still be trapped in comedy obscurity. So, why are they willing to betray him for a couple of dollars? Even if the network offered them double to work for them, it's not right. They should've started another show, worked for another network, or anything else but collect checks from the people Chappelle feels is trying to blacklist him in the business.

Kanye West Touch the Sky Video Teaser

So apparently Kanye is going to try to jump the Grand Canyon in some rocket-sled in the Chris Milk directed video for 'Touch the Sky.'  The cinematography looks great with the 70s color tones and wide-angle lenses.  But what's up with Pamela Anderson all up in this piece?  First I hear she's going to do a pole dance at the Grammys, now this

Kanye West feat. Lupe Fiasco- Touch the Sky trailer directed by Chris Milk

I always thought that this Just Blaze-laced track was the highlight of the entire album, funky enough to put in rotation at the club and accessible enough for weddings. 

By far the absolute highlight of this video will be the video debut of Lupe Fiasco, who I think will blow up something fierce in 2006.  His skateboard anthem "kick, push" was one of the most slept on tracks in '05, even though it got a healthy dose of radio spins in the Chi.

I didn't even know this video existed. It's funny how Jay-Z is the only one in the vid not on the Black power tip. He was keeping it real even back then.

I agree with Eskay- YouTube is the best thing since electricity.

Grafh "I Ain't Playin'" feat Stat Quo Video

Not many people heard Grafh's impressive "preview" album or saw the grimy (in a good way) videos for the singles. So let me liberate the vid for I Ain't Playin' feat. Stat Quo for all dozen of my visitors to see.

The Chappelle Theory: Officially Full of Shit

Not like you believed any of it in the first place, right?  Nearly 2 weeks after clusterbombing Internet messageboards and comment spamming anything resembling a blog, The Chappelle Theory Confidential website finally revealed its true purpose: selling t-shirts.

Dave Chappelle Takes Advice from Quincy Jones

Time Magazine clears up the rumors and reports that Dave Chappelle is NOT in a mental institution, and doesn't seem like he's on cocaine. I feel relieved, as if he's a family member or something (don't try to understand- it's a Black male thing).

The article says Dave is staying in South Africa with a Muslim friend in order to clear the fog created by his sudden celebrity and the 50 mil deal with Comedy Central. Dave even goes as far to explain that he's leaning on his religion to stay centered, and it's unclear if his Muslim friend is a spiritual advisor.

This sounds very familiar to the thoughts Quincy Jones posted on the Huffington Post blog:

"All I know is that, on their own, human beings are not programmed to be able to handle that much fame, that much adulation, that much success. The only way to deal with something that overwhelming -- even overwhelming success -- is if you are spiritually centered. "

I'm glad Dave is one of the few celebs who will handle this correctly and not self-destruct.
