Yesterday I created a blog to track the crazy details of the Murder Inc trial. Today, lo and behold I was forwarded a link to Philadelphia Weekly's blog about Beenie Sigel's continuing legal and family problems (they count Beans himself as one of their readers).

The Chat Room is Back Open!

Actually, it never closed. The participation just became erratic, starting with me.

At the advice of some people wiser than me, I'm setting a schedule where you can expect at least one person to be in the room. Hit it up 9AM-5PM EST, Mon-Fri.

So, when you get bored at work, stop in the room and ask a question, start a discussion, or just poli with some new people. 

Blogs to Watch- Crunk and Disorderly, Status Ain't Hood, & Nastack

Some of my favorite blogs have gotten stale lately. I thought it was just the Summer, but the uninspiration continues even as Fall hits us. I still read them because well, that's part of my job right now. Doesn't mean I enjoy it though.

Luckily, three new blogs have popped up, and are bringing the fun back. Meet and greet:

• Crunk and Disorderly - hip-hop gossip and important fluffery (where does he find some of those photos?)
• Status Ain't Hood - the Village Voice's surprisingly bloggy-style blog written by Tom of Dip Dip Dive
• Nastack - incisive mixtape reviews and free downloads of the complete mixes

The Hip Hop Demographic Project: Part 1

- Where do hip hop junkies live online?
- Are online hip hop heads mostly African-American? White? Asian? Latino?
- Does the blog reading demo mirror that of conscious hip hop shows? 
- Why do advertisers sometimes totally miss their target demo with their "urban" products?

Word to Clyde for encouraging me to look deeper into the subject of contemporary hip hop demographics.  I'm going to contribute my part by deconstructing the online hip hop world.  Hopefully you fellow bloggers and culture junkies can utilize this information to further your projects and the culture as a whole.

Dear Hip Hop Bloggers...

Thank you for filling my reader each day with dozens of creative, funny, insightful thoughts about hip-hop. However, I have one complaint. Where's the coverage of independent artists?

Some of you are walking encyclopedias of your local underground scene, yet you only blog about the Top 40 artists who are overexposed anyway. What the deal?

Be honest. You can quote Soso's lyrics. You regularly hit up "Strange Famous" on AIM. Don't be ashamed of it! Show love to your favorite underappreciated rappers, no matter how few people care!

Who knows- maybe your scene will blow up and "real" writers will start "borrowing" from your blog's archives for their magazine features (word to HoustonSoReal and Government Names).

Introducing: SOHH Blogs

SOHH.com now has it's own hip-hop blog section! They already do daily reports on hip-hop news, and have a huge message board community (1,300 online right now), so blogging, which is often a mix of news and community is a natural step for SOHH.

I have my own blog over there called Media Chin-Check, and I'm helping put together the others. Remember MTV's wack attempt at blogging? Well, this is much different. At SOHH Blogs it's real hip-hop heads, saying whatever they want, posting outside links, and getting unfiltered love/hate in the open comments section. Just like here!

The front page features a snapshot of not just the what's happening on the blogs or in the news at SOHH, but also around the hip-hop web. This is cool for people like my brother, who squints when I say "RSS" and  thinks I'm talking about a new drug when I mention using "Kinja."
