Handling New Writer Requests
More people than I thought are offering their writing skills and hip-hop knowledge to the site. Since I don't have the time/desire to read through writing samples I've devised a *genius plan* for accepting as many people as possible while keeping this a quality, focused blog.
If the person asking to be down has a hip-hop blogs already I'll sign them up in an instant. No need for me to explain blogging or question their devotion. Yes I know my devotion is questionable seeing how I gave up on keeping Diesel Nation current, but that's besides the point.
If they don't have a blog I make them a junior author for a month. This means all of their posts have to be reviewed by myself first. I won't do any editing on it. It's just to make them think twice before they post. When you have your own blog you're careful about how you represent yourself. The site is a reflection of yourself. However, when you're posting stuff with a group you can tend to be wanton with your discretion and tac any ol' nonsense on the web that you feel like. This is why message boards suck. The infamous RMHH is the best example of that.
After a month of being a junior editor the person decides if they want to stick with Hip Hop Blogs. If not, my job is easy. If yes, then I have to decide what to do next. I don't even know what to judge these guys on. We'll see when the time comes.
